My Best Car
The best car I ever owned was a 1996 Chevrolet Beretta, V6. It was victory red on the outside with light grey on the inside. I had not thought of myself one to drive a bright red car. But it turned out to be my best car.
There were three of them when I bought the car new in 1996. There was a white one, a black one and a bright red one. I knew I didn't want a white or black car, so that left the red one. One thing about it, I told myself, is that when you are in the car, driving, you really can't see the outside color of the car in a Beretta. I got an excellent deal on it. After the car salesman sold me the car, he quit his job at the car dealer's. Sometimes I think he gave me a real good price because he was quitting! Anyway, it was the easiest time I had ever had buying a car. The car had a wonderful ride from the start. The engine ran smoothly and was so dependable. It had a big-car, smooth ride. It also got about 25 miles to the gallon, good, I think, for a V-6. It only needed oil changes and routine maintenance until the 5 year extended warranty was about to expire. Right before the warranty was about to expire, I took it into the dealer for a check up. They did a lot of repairs on it. I just looked at it like there were a lot of new parts put into the car. This would make the car last a long time. My deductible was only $100. Good deal! When the tires wore out, I bought really good tires. I told people my car had new boots! It was a brand of tire people say are expensive. But, many years after I bought the tires, they were still in "green" condition. I enjoyed hearing the tires suck the road when it was raining. I drove that car for over 15 years. It was truly my best car. The car and I were one. I traded it in for a new Chevrolet Malibu about two months ago. I was sad for awhile. I just felt the 1996 Beretta would not last forever, and it was getting a little on the old side, even it was the best car I ever owned. Whoever bought that car used got a good deal. It will probably be their best car. It was humming like a fine timepiece when I left it behind in the car lot. I will never know if I made a mistake trading it in. I expect my new Chevrolet Malibu to last at least over 15 years! By Linda Hammond - Born in Columbus, OH, went to High School in Grove City, OH.
