Audi A4
Family Car Review Of The Audi A4 Sedan, Avant, And Cabriolet
There's just something special about the Audi A4. Whether you opt for the base model 2.0T or the 255 horsepower V6, the Audi A4 delivers style, substance, and a price tag that ranges from affordable to dream worthy. While there won't be many Audi A4 drivers who actually opt for the $47, 000 price tag of the spec'd out Audi A4 without considering the A5 first, the Audi A4 still has a presence. If you've got to go with four doors, there really isn't a much better, more stylish, or more practical way to go about it than the Audi A4. There are several models from which to choose from the Audi A4 lineup, making choosing an Audi that much more difficult. The Audi A4 sedan starts at $29k and comes decently equipped in base model form. You can also choose an Audi A4 Avant, however, which gives you the added versatility of a wagon for just about $32, 000. Finally, the Audi A4 Cabriolet is the convertible of the group, and shows up with a $39, 750 price tag, but gives you a power top, and all the sun your tan can handle.
The Audi A4 is powered by two different engines depending on the trim level you choose. On the less expensive side is a 2.0L turbocharged four that makes a healthy 200 horsepower and 207 foot/pounds of torque. You'll get good gas mileage with this option, currently EPA estimated in the 20/31 range. The Audi A4 can also be had with a 3.1L six, which pushes the horsepower up to a healthy 255 horses, though you're going to sacrifice quite a bit of gas mileage to play on this turf, to the tune of 14 MPG city and 21 MPG highway. The Audi A4 is also available with a package called the Titanium package, which gives you a different front grille, fifteen spoke alloy wheels, and special window trim, headliner, and roof rails. If you can't live without the top of the line, however, than the Audi A4 conveniently becomes the S4, a package which includes a 4.2L V8 with 340 horses on tap and 302 foot pounds torque. This sedan carries a hefty premium over the Audi A4, however, with a starting price just short of $50, 000. Not exactly small change, but as they say, if you've got it, flaunt it. Flaunt it too much, however, and the gas man will come to get you. With an EPA estimated 13 miles per gallon city and 19 highway, this Audi will be hard pressed to pass a gas station, regardless of how much the sign out front charges. This Audi, in fact, gets similar mileage ratings as the Audi S8's 14/18 which is had out of a 450 horsepower, 5.2L V10. Kind of makes you wonder, doesn't it? At the end of the day, however, the Audi A4 is a smart, practical family car that still knows how to carve a corner or two. With six choices to go once you've settled on the A4, there's no shortage of decision making when you buy yourself an Audi A4 By Don Kress - I am currently available on a contract basis for freelance projects from technical writing to ghostwriting.
