Some Things You Need To Know Before Buying A Car Warranty
Warranty Coverage the Difference Between Limited and Extended It seems like our cars are becoming more and more indestructible, with all the developments of modern technology...or so we are told by auto manufacturers. Actually the truth is with all the modern technologies you are actually increasing the risk of major components that are more costly to repair. With all the computer components such as sensors, electronic ignition and computer chips you must find a certified technician to do the service. Which in the long run, the technician will charge higher rates for the service which can be extremely pricey if not covered under some type of warranty.
This is where having the right warranty is very important. The word limited warranty is exactly what it says, it is limited. Car manufacturers have researched what parts are the least likely to break or wear, and have covered those parts in the limited warranty. If any repairs are needed that are not covered by the limited warranty, the repairs will be out of your pocket. This is where you will need an extended auto warranty. Usually when you purchase your car the dealership will offer you an extended warranty. These types of extended warranties are expensive; the dealerships love to mark up prices including the price of the extended warranty to put more money in their pocket. If you purchase your warranty direct you will pay a lot less than the dealership type warranty. Dealerships Don't Accept Third-Party Warranties Myth Most dealerships today offer both manufacturer and third-party extended warranties and accept third-party warranties. It is unusual that a dealership would refuse to service a vehicle covered under a third party warranty. This is more money in their pocket. Most reputable warranty companies pay the repair dealership immediately over the phone for the services that are covered. Now That You Have a Warranty, You Are Worry Free or Are You? Even though you have purchased an extended warranty there are duties you must perform for the extended warranty to cover. This includes routine maintenance such as oil change, transmission check and other maintenance that is mentioned in the owner's manual. Keep accurate maintenance records and receipts, failing to do so may increase the risk of the repairs not being covered by the extended warranty. Does My Warranty Contract Go into Effect the Day I Purchased It? Read the fine print on the contract you signed to see when the service contract takes effect. Consumers are advised to confirm that their coverage is in effect by calling or writing the company within 30 days of purchase for confirmation that the application was received and approved. The warranty company will usually send ID cards to the policy holder and a copy of the warranty coverage they purchased. If I Sell My Vehicle Does the Bumper to Bumper Warranty Stays With the Vehicle? Call or write the warranty holder, some restrictions apply on the transfer of the warranty to a second owner other than the original purchaser. Some of these policies will only warranty to the original buyer and are not transferable.
