Deciding on Whether to Get an Extended Warranty

Purchasing a new electrical appliance can be a truly rewarding experience. Bring your appliance home may be like a holiday if it has taken some time to make the best choice. If you are still in the process of searching for the right appliance, it makes perfect sense to take the time to investigate the warranty as well as to decide whether or not to get an extended warranty.

Virtually every purchase comes with a warranty. This is a guarantee that your product will work for a specific amount of time. The standard warranty for a purchase can be any length of time that ranges from approximately 90 days to a year or longer. It typically covers defective workmanship or if the product fails to continue working during that time. The warranty will either cover a replacement product or provide a money back guarantee. Often, you will have to ship the defective product back at your own expense before a replacement will be provided to you.

Deciding on whether or not to purchase an extended warranty does not have to be a difficult challenge. Usually, at the time of purchase, you are offered the extended warranty on your product. This coverage is for an extended period beyond the regular warranty and is an excellent way to extend the life of your product and the protection against certain damage and defects.

Electronics such as computer, printers, televisions, DVD players, stereos and audio devices are valuable investments. It is easy to spend a considerable amount on these items and choosing to purchase an extended warranty makes perfect sense. Although you will have to make an additional investment to receive the extended warranty, always check to see what the grace period is for purchasing it if you don't want to buy at the time of purchase of your item.

Also, not all extended warranties are the same. At the time of purchase, you will be offered several different extended warranties. The longer the period of coverage, the more the warranty will cost. With respect to certain technology that is continuing to evolve and be upgraded, you may want to think twice about a lengthy extended warranty because it is very possible that you will want to upgrade your product in a few years to something more modern. This is especially true when it comes to items that are more energy efficient and easier to dispose of without harming the earth.

Take the time to read what the extended warranty offers. It may only cover replacement parts when you provide shipment of the defective or broken part back to the manufacturer. A valuable extended warranty can even provide a replacement product, such as a computer, so that your work experiences minimal downtime. Read the fine print to see if you can return your item to the place where it was purchased or if you have to ship to an out of state manufacturer. Also check to see if accidental damage such as power surges and moisture.

isn't a countertop convection oven the same as the nu-wave pro and flavorwave deluxe, and probably more sturdy
anybody have experience with the nu-wave, how reliable, should i get the extended warranty (for electronics only), is it worth getting the extender ring, would it really cook a frozen turkey effectively? It seems like by the time you add up all the shipping and accesories, it would be better to get a commercial grade countertop convection oven at Wal-Mart or Target ranging from $150 to $300, they seem more durable (also since commercial grade) than those polycarbonate dome ones (nu-wave and flavorwave deluxe) for the price. Anybody have any experience with those nu-wave and flavorwave ovens and compared to convection ovens?

Do you get them? Is it worth it if you buy something for $250 and have to pay another $60 to get piece of mind for something that SHOULD have a decent warranty anyways? Or is it a ripoff? Thanks.

Xbox 360 w/ connect warranty?
Never had to purchase extended warranty for electronics that I had purchased in past years. However, I've heard stories of Xbox consoles over heating and failing. But in recent years, I haven't heard such stories now. Should I still invest in purchasing an extended warranty for the newer generation Xbox system? It's only $20 for 2 years.
