Pertaining to the prior answer, I would agree with putting the money into savings. If you can afford a $2k-$3k repair, then skip the warranty.
If you want a warranty, there are generally 2 levels: exclusionary and stated. The exclusionary policy will cover all car parts except for the items listed as not covered. The stated coverage is cheaper and gives you a list of only the items covered. Always consider a factory-sponsored warranty as well as a reputable independent warranty. Your GE warranty is excellent as is the Warrantech brand. Check from dealer to dealer as they are free to sell the warranty for any amount they want. Typical profit is about $400 on a warranty so they should be interested in giving you plenty of attention. Finally, compare the coverage of the final 2 brands you are going to consider. Items such as overall components covered, deductible, rental coverage, mileage and months of coverage, etc. should be compared.
