Is Buying A New Car A Sucker's Bet Or Chance Of A Lifetime?

Perhaps there is no greater evidence to the state our economy both here in the United States and abroad than the horrific condition of the auto industry. Of the three American made manufacturers, General Motors (GM) and Chrysler are seeking more and more government money just to get by. Only Ford Motors has been able to make it without help thus far. A similar trend is beginning to take place oversees as well were the biggest car maker of them all, Toyota, is also currently seeking financial help from its government. With all that is going on in the auto industry, you may be worried and reluctant to buy a new car. After all, how can you use a warranty if the company is no longer in existence?

First off, there has probably never been a better time to buy a new car than right now. For those who qualify the manufacturers are offering everything from free upgrades to zero percent financing all in an effort to get you to buy. The auto manufacturers are just trying to do what the rest of us are right now and that is to get through this rough patch in the economy. Some of the deals that are available today on new cars will probably never be seen again.

But what if a car company goes bankrupt?

There has been much rumbling about GM possibly going bankrupt. If that happens then all warranties are all null and void right? Wrong. Just because a company files for bankruptcy doesn't mean it goes away. Depending on the type of bankruptcy and how management handles the situation, there is a good chance that the company could come out ahead of the game in the end. One way they will prevail in the bankruptcy proceedings is to service the customers right to ensure future business. This is not accomplished by voiding warranties.

What about a buy-out?

If a car company is bought-out it is going to likely be bout-out by a rival. For example, if GM were to bought out by Ford, then it would be Ford that would cover your warranty instead of GM. The same would hold true for a merger, where the "new company" would take then be responsible for your warranty.

If all else fails, go with the company you feel has the best chance of being around for years to come. Ford has not taken any bail-out money as of yet so that may be your best bet. Then again, Toyota has a strong reputation. Bottom line is, be comfortable with your decision and take advantage of the once in a life time opportunities within the new car sector, because chances are they won't last.

Will GM New Car Warranty cover the cost of my upholstery damage?
I have a new (11 months old) GM car. I got a nicotine stain on the back seat and was able to break down the spot. However, doing so, the area around where the spot was looks faded (not white). Cant seem to get the natural color and texture to come back. I got a reply earlier from yahoo answers suggesting i look into getting my car dealership to change the seat cover. Is anyone familiar with this? They did not give me a return e-mail. My warranty does not say they will cover this and does not say they will not cover this. If this is coverable what reason would i gve the dealer for the stain mark i made? HELP!!!
