Buying a new car warrants paying close attention to the type of warranty that comes with the vehicle. Normally, manufacturers give warranty ranging from one to ten years depending on the type of vehicle and its price. Some combine the miles along with the timeframe like one year or 50, 000 miles whichever occurs first. Car warranties are extremely important because one may experience mechanical breakdowns involving repairing or replacement of defective parts. If the vehicle you are purchasing is not covered under warranty then you have to shell out money from your pocket, leading to huge amounts at rare occasions. There are different types of car warranties and it is very difficult for a common man to understand all of them perfectly. However, one has to know them thoroughly in order to resolve any issues arising out of car warranties. A bumper to bumper warranty covers all parts excluding the parts which are prone to wear and tear.Basic car warranty covers all the parts like a bumper to bumper' warranty excluding parts that undergo wear and tear like car tyres, break shoes, wiper oil filters, etc. Some companies offer warranties for tyres and batteries as a part of basic warranty. Certain parts like emission components require coverage to certain specified time according to federal rules.

Drivetrain or Powertrain warranties cover parts like car engine, transmission components, axles and other parts that are crucial for mobility. Generally this type of warranty excludes wear and tear parts. However, parts like bearings and pistons that are often subjected to wear and tear are also covered under this type of warranties.A Roadside Assistance is a service provided by most car manufacturers and dealers to help you in case you get stranded with your car due to some mechanical problems. Whenever you encounter such problems mid-way during your journey inform a nearby dealer, who will send a break down vehicle with required accessories. All these manufacturers' warranties expire once the coverage period is over. Who will pay for the maintenance and replacement of spares after the expiry of manufacturer's warranty? These are the questions often arising in the mind of every car buyer. Extended car warranties and third party car warranties come into rescue in such situations.Normally, extended car warranties are provided by the dealers or any warranty companies. These companies offer various plans to cover new as well as used cars. Extended car warranties work like an insurance coverage. Whenever there is an unforeseen expenditure to your car, you don't have to dip in your packet, extended car warranty will take care of it. You have to purchase an extended warranty for your car when the manufacturers warranty expires. Some extended car warranties work like service contracts covering only labor charges, and you may have to pay for the parts if any replaced.

In majority of the cases all major repairs occur after the expiry of manufacturer's warranty. Before buying an extended warranty for your car, you need to consider following factors. Whether the extended warranty covers normal wear and tear failures, whether tubes and gaskets are covered under such warranty, whether malfunctioning and damages of parts due to overheating is covered, whether any deduction is allowed, whether you can repair your vehicle at any repairing shop and then make your claims with the claim administrator.

How do car warranties work?
Is it by the dealership or by the manufacturer??? Basically the car i want (new), they don't have the model at my dealer but they do about 3 hours drive away. My parents are paying half of it as a last 2 b-day present and a grad present, and they are refusing to get this car because of the whole warranty issue. I live an hour away from home right now, but am going to be moving out of state in 3 months anyways, so i don't see why it matters. They're claiming that if it breaks down, only the dealer you bought it from will service it or whatever...and that since the dealer in our home town knows us personally, he'll help to transfer the warranty. Which i thought it was by the car company anyways, so the dealer doesn't matter and we are arguing on this point. So i talked to my mom again....and i'm starting to think she's just crazy......and basically what she's saying is If that specific dealer didn't sell you the car...they are going to give you a hard time about getting it serviced and will purposefully damage things that you won't know about. Like un tighten screws just so you won't come back to them with your car.
