Nissan Extends Warranty For Altima And Maxima Subframe Problems
Long-time car owners are generally used to the way a car starts to creak or knock as it ages. If you own one of these Nissan cars, however, that car noise could be more serious than you think. Nissan Altimas and Maximas in "salt states" are prone to corrosion of the rear subframe bushings and in some cases, even cracking of the car subframe. Nissan is aware of these problems and has issued a service bulletin and extended the Altima and Maxima subframe warranty. Don't get caught paying big bucks for a car repair you're entitled to for free.
MODELS AFFECTED: 2002-2005 Nissan Altima and 2004-2005 Nissan Maxima vehicles in "salt states". RECOGNIZED SALT STATES: Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin. (Yes, they know D.C. isn't technically a state.) CAR SUBFRAME PROBLEMS: On some of these Altima and Maxima models, problems occur in the above states with rough winters where salting of roads is done to keep road surfaces from freezing. Road salt and water is corrosive to cars in general, but the Nissan subframes are particularly susceptible to corrosion problems. Later models will likely only have some rear bushing corrosion, but older models have a higher likelihood of a cracked subframe. IS MY CAR SAFE?: Nissan assures car drivers that the car's performance and handling are unaffected and it is more an issue with noise. The car is safe to drive. Subframe cracking is never a good thing, however, so if you have a knocking sound, be sure to have the car checked out at a Nissan repair shop. WHAT NISSAN WILL DO: For a Nissan Altima or Maxima registered in one of the above salt states, Nissan will conduct repairs for the car subframe problems. They will either replace and seal the bushings or replace the entire car subframe assembly as needed. IT'S FREE: These subframe problems affect over 400, 000 Nissan Altima and Maxima cars. Nissan is aware of the problem and has issued a voluntary service campaign bulletin. Repairs will be made at no cost to the consumer. WARRANTY EXTENSION: Nissan has given car owners of ALL 2002-2005 Nissan Altima and 2004-2005 Nissan Maxima models an extended warranty on the rear subframe, for a total of 13 years with unlimited mileage. WHY DIDN'T I HEAR ABOUT IT?: Consumers are generally aware of large car recalls, which receive a lot of attention in the news when a car's design or manufacture leads to dangerous conditions for passengers and others on the road. Most car recalls and the lesser known service or "tech" bulletins gather less attention, however. These mechanical or cosmetic car problems are generally brought to the consumer's attention by a mail notice from the car manufacturer or on a routine visit to an auto mechanic. Due to the large number of Altima and Maxima cars affected, Nissan has been notifying car owners in stages. The process began with older Nissan Altima and Maxima models that were more likely to have subframe cracks. Nissan dealer repair shops and other car mechanics have access to these service bulletins and should be aware of the necessary repairs and warranty. midas the muffler shop told me I had four catalytic converters. I looked under the car and it like there was?
it was on 2001 nissan pathfinder. The shop told me there are two on the right bank and two on the left bank. He called it pre-cat and catalytic converter on each side. However, i called the nissan service department. They told me that there are only two catalytic converters one on each side. Who is right?

fuel door 02 Pathfinder?
My truck does not have that little spring loaded door in the fuel filler neck down inside that the gas nozzle pushes open. My understanding it's called a fuel inlet restrictor. Is this normal? My local Nissan service guy says that the Pathfinders do not have them.
Thanks guys......I was hoping you would answer me John Paul. I am hoping you will have an answer for all my questions.
Thanks again!!

2001 nissan pathfinder se problem.?
the car shakes. a lot. and the service engine light is on. my parents just got the exhaust fixed (and the mechanic who fixed it said that definitely wasn't the problem). and my dad gave me a piece of paper that he got from someone who knows how to fix cars and it seems that it's the "cat. below threshold" that is the problem.
but the thing is, i don't know what that means and when i called nissan service, they didn't know what it meant or what was needed to fix it. HELP?!
i know the easy thing would be to take the pathfinder to the dealership and have them find the problem and fix it but my mom is cheap and it costs $80 to just look at it.
