Borescope Uses Explained
This article is focused on the construction of borescopes, their parameters, types and features several interesting buying tips.
A borescope is an optical device with either a rigid or a flexible tube, with an eyepiece on one end and objective lens on the other, connected together by a body with fiber optic illumination in it. Borescopes have the ability to inspect areas that hard to reach, or even totally inaccessible by other means. Based ont the type of tube, borescopes can be either rigid or flexible.
Each type has its own unique advantages, so it's hard to point out clearly which is better, as it all depends on the application. Nevertheless, the rigid borescopes are the more popular type, maybe becuase they are cheaper. Their disadvantage is that their body is static and it won't reach all the places you would like to see.
The quality of the image produced by a rigid borescope is higher compared to flexible models, and they are also easier to use and can spot flows as small as 0.001. If we have to sum things up, the conclusion is that you should buy a rigid borescope unless if movement limitations are not a problem (have to be in a straight line). There isn't a universal borescope that combines the advantages of both types, at least not for now. One can't say which type is better, it all depends on the specific borescope use.
When buying a borescope, you must be aware of the environment in which you will be using it. The rule is to select one that will fit through the smallest hole required. It's a good idea to have a diameter smaller than the minimum allowed, because a slightly smaller scope may allow "wiggle room" so that you can see more by tilting the scope.
The mangnification of a borescope is a measure of how large and object appears when viewed through the borescope as compared to its actual size when viewed from the same location without the borescope. But the power of magnification doesn't increase automatically if the object that's being viewed moves further away. Borescopes can be used with a digitam camera in order to record the images or view them on a big monitor.
But not all borescopes and cameras are compatible. You should consult with a sales agent or check the manual or internet to see if the two particular models which you have in mind will work properly together. An objective lens with long focal length is requried when you want the image from the borescope to fill up the whole screen.
You should also make sure that the optical zoom range on your camera goes out to a 350mm or longer telephoto, which is equal to 35mm focal length. For a 3MP camera, a digital zoom with the power of 3x will be fine. Also make sure both the borescope and camera are well supported, so that there is no over-strain on the lens, otherwise they can break.

Is my contractor liable for a leaky window he installed?
We recently had a contractor finish a bonus space into an office for us. He installed a window. The window leaks in the rain. It damaged the desk he built. The contractor claims that the window is faulty and that we need to contact the window manufacturer and file a warranty claim for a new window.
This seems to me like something he should take care of. He bought the window and installed it. How do I know it's a bad window and not a bad installation?
Who should take care of warranty claims? And should he be liable for the damaged desk?
This all happened within 3 months of his completion. We signed no contract, but now he's trying to get me to sign one that releases him from responsibility. Can anyone help and let me know what standard industry practices are?
Thanks for helping.
